Work safely at heights
Course Overview
This course provides students with the skills and knowledge required to work safely at heights in construction, civil construction, infrastructure and related work environments.
The course is suitable for people who are entering or working in construction, civil or infrastructure industries and may be required to perform tasks where there is a risk of falling from one level to another.
Students will participate in theory training, practical skills development and assessment activities using working at heights equipment in a controlled training environment.
What Students Will Learn
Identify work requirements
Understand work instructions, procedures and safety requirements before starting work at heights.
Identify hazards and risks
Recognise common height-related hazards and apply risk control measures.
Use PPE and height safety equipment
Select, inspect, fit and use relevant PPE and height safety equipment.
Work safely at heights
Apply safe work practices when accessing and working at heights.
Respond to incidents and emergencies
Follow workplace procedures for reporting hazards, incidents and emergency situations.
Complete workplace documentation
Complete basic workplace safety documents such as hazard reports and related records.
Assessment
Knowledge Assessment
Supervised written questions covering WHS, hazard identification, risk control, PPE, emergency response and reporting.
Practical Observation
Demonstration of practical working at heights skills in a controlled environment.
Oral Assessment
Verbal questioning to confirm understanding of key safety requirements.
Practical / Workplace Assessment
Practical / Workplace Assessment Completion of workplace-style tasks, hazard identification and reporting activities.
Course Information
Entry Requirements
Age
Be at least 18 years old.
Physical capability
Be physically capable of participating in practical working at heights activities.
LLN
Have sufficient English language, literacy and numeracy skills to read safety instructions, complete basic forms and participate in assessment.
PPE
PPE Wear appropriate PPE during practical training and assessment.
Identification
Provide photo identification before course commencement.
